Dr. Alison Thompson

NSERC CREATE Training Program in BioActives

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow interested in working with Dr. Alison Thompson at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada as part of a team contributing to innovations in synthetic methodology involving pyrroles.  The successful applicant will join the CREATE BioActives Training Program, which aims to empower trainees by twinning research excellence with professional skills, as well as opportunities to network with industry partners.

Qualifications include:

  • Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry from a recognized university;

  • Desire to contribute to an inclusive workplace environment where input guided by a variety of perspectives and lived experiences is valued;

  • Experience and understanding of required safety procedures for the laboratory;

  • Expertise working with air-sensitive chemical species;

  • Experience working with electron-rich chemical species;

  • Strong research track record, including successful publication record, commensurate with career stage;

  • Strong collaborative communication skills, both written and oral;

  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team;

  • Able to interact efficiently and respectfully with group members at all career stages;

  • Strong problem solving and data-driven decision-making skills;

  • Expertise working with glove box, electrochemical and/or photochemical instrumentation is an asset.

Salary Range: 

$40,000 per annum, plus benefits as per university guidelines

Start Date: 

Summer/fall 2020, or flexible

Duration of appointment: 

24 months
